10 NYSC MEMBERS RESCUED FROM KIDNAPPERS IN KOGI FOREST

Ten National Youth Service Corps members abducted by suspected kidnappers have been rescued from Egume Forest in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The Kogi State Police Command disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the rescue was achieved through a coordinated, intelligence-led operation aimed at securing the safe release of the abducted corps members.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Afusat Saliu, said the operation was also focused on dismantling criminal networks operating in the area and apprehending those behind the abduction.

Saliu, however, said the operation was still ongoing as security personnel continued efforts to rescue the remaining victims and arrest the suspects.

She stated that the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commended personnel of the police, military, Department of State Services and other supporting security agencies for their bravery and commitment to the operation.

The police spokesperson also acknowledged the cooperation of residents in the affected communities, particularly the useful information provided to security agencies.

She urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant while promptly reporting suspicious movements or information that could assist the ongoing rescue operation.

Saliu assured residents that security agencies were deploying available resources to secure the release of the remaining victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The rescued corps members were among 15 NYSC members reportedly abducted last week while travelling from Abuja to Bayelsa State.

The abductors were said to have demanded N20 million in ransom from the families of some of the victims.
