ASP, 2 OTHER POLICEMEN ARRESTED FOR KILLING LAGOS LAWYER ON XMAS DAY

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to the Ajiwe Police Division, Ajah in Lagos, has been arrested, along with two other policemen for shooting to death a Lagos lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem.

The arrested persons are to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba; for further investigation.

Late Raheem was said to be coming from Christmas Day church service along with her husband, who was driving the car, when the incident happened under the Ajah bridge.

It was learnt that the police officer had ordered them to park while on stop-and-search duty but they needed the vehicle in front of them to to move so that they can park well. The ASP was said to have shot Raheem in the chest at close range. Other policemen at the scene were said to have fled the scene immediately.

Another group of policemen were said to have arrived the scene to evacuate the corpse of Raheem. The body was later to be discovered at a public mortuary in the Yaba area of the metropolis.

 

The incident which occurred on Sunday was also reported on social media by a colleague of deceased lawyer, @kzuzoka; he wrote “Good evening @BenHundeyin, one of your officers attached to Ajiwe police Division Ajah, shot at point blank & murdered a lawyer colleague of mine today.
This is one too many of similar incidents with @PoliceNG officer in Ajiwe.

Now a family have lost a dear one on Christmas day.”

In response, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin wrote that “Unfortunate and avoidable incident that was. The ASP that shot and two others with him have since been taken into custody. They are to be moved to the SCID for further investigation.”
