POLICE WARNS POLL OBSERVERS TO STAY OUT OF SENSITIVE AREAS
During the governorship and state house of assembly elections on Saturday, the Lagos State Police Command has asked poll observers to stay away from vulnerable areas.
When the Economic Community of West African States Election Observation Mission, assigned to the South-West zone, paid a polite and working visit to the command, Oludotun Odubona, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, provided the security advice.
The visit’s objectives were to acquaint the observers with the command and provide them with security advice.
The elections on March 18 will be hotly contested, and Odubona claims that security agencies are already on the ground to prevent violence.
He said āThe stakes are very high in the gubernatorial and State Assembly elections and will be keenly contested and to ensure that the elections are hitch-free, the police has identified sensitive areas and conflict zones.
āNecessary steps are being taken.ā
Odubona assured that police escort would be provided to the team of observers.
