A 16-year-old pupil at a school in the Rumukwurusi region on the outskirts of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, publicly violated his 11-year-old female colleague last Friday, causing anger.
It was learned that the student’s friends observed the situation when he performed the act.

The youngster was reported to have climbed the school fence to escape shortly after the incident, but he was later detained by the school administration, and the girl was sent to an unidentified hospital for treatment.

Pictures of the schoolgirl bleeding went viral online, which infuriated people.

Speaking to a Port Harcourt radio station (Nigeria Info) that our correspondent was watching, the girl’s mother urged the state government and the school administration to make sure the offender was held accountable.

The upset woman, who identified herself as a widow, claimed to have received a panic call from the school requesting she come right away. When she arrived, she discovered her daughter was heavily bleeding.

“I want justice for my daughter, and the school should provide the boy who did that thing,” she said. I have no one because I am a widow. I and my kids are alone.

“They should provide the boy. He should not go free at all because maybe he has been doing it to other people but he will not go free this time. And I want people to help me.”

She further said her daughter lost so much blood from the incident.

She added, “I got a call from the school that I should come because it was an emergency. I had to rush to the school. When I got there, I saw my daughter bleeding seriously. The bleeding was too much.

“I had to secure my daughter first by bringing her to the hospital while the boy was still in the school custody. They said they will hold the boy for me. The doctors have not said anything yet. They are just taking care of her at the moment but the situation is still like that, no improvement and the money is expensive.”

Social media users are furious about the scenario and are calling for the suspect’s arrest and conviction. Many have condemned the behaviour.

When contacted, Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokesman for the state police command, verified the event and stated that the male student has been detained while the inquiry is still ongoing.

Iringe-Koko stated, “The boy has been arrested and the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department. The outcome of our investigation would be made known subsequently.”
