FENERBAHCE DEFENDER, OSAYI-SAMUEL FACES 10-MATCH BAN FOR ASSAULTING FAN IN TURKEY
Fenerbahce and Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel could get a lengthy suspension for assaulting a Trabzonspor fan at the weekend.
Fenerbahce on Sunday defeated Trabzonspor 3-2 to move within two points of league leaders Galatasaray.
After the match, home supporters invaded the pitch, with Super Eagles defender Osayi-Samuel taking to self-defence against a violent attack from a Trabzonspor fan.
In a viral video on social media, the right-back was seen punching a fan in a bid to defend himself.
According to Turkey Leo Sports, Osayi-Samuel could now be slammed with a suspension of up to 10 games for his part in the brawl.
The 26-year-old could face further penalties and be referred to the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) Disciplinary Committee; the decision to ban the defender is totally up to them.
Article 44 of the Turkish football discipline regulations states that the defender may face a suspension ranging from a few weeks to a year, at the discretion of the disciplinary committee.
However, Bright Osayi-Samuel is expected to plead self-defense to avoid punishment, and the hearing in the case has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 2.
