The Katsina State police have arrested one 21-year-old Halilu Yusuf on suspicion of kidnapping a six-year-old boy.
This was revealed by the police spokesman, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, during a briefing with journalists on Wednesday in Katsina.
He said: “On Aug. 17, at about 2 p.m., based on credible intelligence, the command succeeded in arresting Halilu Yusuf, 21, of Gezawa, via Shinkafi village, in connection with a suspected case of kidnapping a six-year-old.”
He stated that the suspect lured and kidnapped the victim from Kofar-Sauri quarters.
The boy, who is the son of the suspect’s mentor, was held for a ransom of N2 million.
Aliyu mentioned that the suspect initially kept the boy in his room overnight before moving him to another location for safekeeping, unaware that the police were tracking him.
The police spokesman added that the suspect made an anonymous phone call to inform the father about his son’s abduction.
“Upon receipt of the report, the command quickly mobilised the operatives led by the DPO GRA, Katsina, and swung into action.
