TOTTENHAM MIDFIELDER BENTANCUR HANDED SEVEN-GAME BAN,£100,000 FINE OVER RACIST REMARKS
An independent regulatory committee has fined Rodrigo Bentancur £100,000 and banned him from seven games for his racist remarks about Son Heung-min during preseason.
Rodrigo Bentancur was suspended for seven games and fined £100,000 by an independent regulatory panel for violating FA Rule E3 regarding a media interview, according to a statement released by the FA on Monday.
“It was alleged that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder breached FA Rule E3.1 as he acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words and/or brought the game into disrepute. It was further alleged that this constitutes an “aggravated breach”, which is defined in FA Rule E3.2, as it included a reference – whether express or implied – to nationality and/or race and/or ethnic origin.
“Rodrigo Bentancur denied this charge, but the independent regulatory commission found it to be proven and imposed his sanctions following a hearing.”
Football London in a post on X on Monday confirmed his ban.
“Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur’s ban has now been confirmed as well as his fine,” it wrote.
