NEWS UPDATE: THREE POLICE OFFICERS, ONE SUSPECT DIE IN ONDO AUTO CRASH
Four persons, including three police officers and a female suspect have lost their lives in a fatal road crash that occurred in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The crash which occurred on Thursday was caused by a trailer driver who lost control, due to over speeding, crossed the median, and rammed into the police van conveying the officers and the suspect.
According to eyewitnesses, four police officers, from the Monitoring Unit of the Ondo State Police Command had travelled from Akure to make an arrest in Ore.
The surviving officer, who sustained serious injuries, was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo State, Samuel Ibitoye, who confirmed the accident disclosed that it was caused by overspeeding on the part of the trailer driver.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary at the State Hospital in Ore.
Also confirming the incident is the Public Relations Officer of Ondo State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya.
She described the incident as unfortunate and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased officers.
Omisanya noted that the police had commenced investigation into the incident.
