LA LIGA: ARAMBARRI’S LATE BRACE HANDS ATLETICO SHOCK DEFEAT AGAINST GETAFE

Read Time:1 Minute, 15 Second

Getafe pulled off a shocking 2-1 comeback victory over 10-man Atlético Madrid at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on Sunday, as Mauro Arambarri’s late brace handed Diego Simeone’s side a shock defeat.

The forward struck twice in the space of four minutes, as the hosts produced a wonderful turnaround to stun Diego Simeone’s side, who had Angel Correa sent off.

After Barcelona’s game against Osasuna on Saturday was postponed following the death of club doctor Carles Minarro Garcia, Atletico had the opportunity to displace the Blaugrana at the summit.

Los Rojiblancos struck first in the 75th minute when substitute Alexander Sorloth slotted home from the penalty spot, after Omar Alderete was penalised for handball following a VAR review.

However, they were reduced to 10 men 13 minutes later when Correa was shown a straight red card for a dangerous challenge.

Within seconds, Getafe capitalised on their numerical advantage as Arambarri tucked away a rebound then, in the second minute of stoppage time, deflected Diego Rico’s shot past Jan Oblak to snatch all three points.

Data Debrief: Getafe beat Atletico at the 25th attempt

Sorloth broke the deadlock with his seventh goal as a substitute this season, two more than any other player in the big five European leagues.

However, the pendulum swung in Getafe’s favour when Correa received his fifth LaLiga red card in his 329th appearance in the Spanish top flight.

The hosts took full advantage to end their 24-match winless streak against Atletico in LaLiga.
