POWER OUTAGE IN SOME PARTS OF LAGOS NOT DUE TO GRID COLLAPSE — SOURCE CLARIFIES

Agency report
Some parts of Lagos experienced power outages on Saturday following maintenance issues that temporarily affected supply from the Egbin axis of the national grid.
A source familiar with the development told Hotjist that the power interruption was caused by a technical fault at the Egbin Transmission Station, which also affected the Egbin Generating Station.
“It’s not a collapse. We have multiple tripping in the Lagos region. There’s a maintenance job going on around the Egbin axis — we call it OPGW, an upgrade of the lines,” the source explained.
The source added that the issue originated from the Egbin area, causing one line to trip and subsequently affect another.
“So, it’s not a national grid collapse as you guys normally call it. We have multiple trippings as we speak; some stations are still on in the Lagos region, not to talk of the whole country. We still have supply,” the source clarified, noting that more details would be provided later.
Providing further updates, the source added, “It was actually a power transformer that tripped (on transient fault) at Egbin Transmission Station which affects the Egbin Generating Station, but the transformer is back so also the generating station too.”
The outage, which was reported across some parts of the state, left residents without electricity for several hours.
As of the time of filing this report, checks in some affected areas confirmed that power supply has been restored.
