The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has carried out coordinated raids on drug hotspots across Kano State, arresting at least 52 suspects and recovering various illicit substances within two days.
This was disclosed on Wednesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Maigatari.
According to him, the operation—code-named “Operation Sharar Mafaka”—was launched by the command under the leadership of CN D.Y. Lawal as part of a sustained effort to clear notorious drug locations across Kano metropolis.
The statement noted that the operation, which commenced on April 27, 2026, targeted over 20 identified drug dens and resulted in multiple arrests and seizures.
On the first day of the operation, NDLEA operatives raided Filin Idi, Tashar Rami, Fagge, Abattoir, and Farm Centre, where 15 suspects were arrested and various illicit substances and drug-related items were recovered.

On April 28, further raids were conducted at Hotoro Flyover, Mariri Park, Ramin Jirga Tishama, Yankaba Park, and Audu Bako Secretariat, leading to the arrest of 16 additional suspects, including three females, as well as the recovery of drugs and locally made weapons.
Later that evening, operations extended to Kwanar Ungogo, Titin Jajira, Tudun Bojuwa, and parts of Sabon Gari, resulting in 21 more arrests, including one female suspect, alongside the seizure of additional illicit substances and evidence.
In total, 52 suspects were apprehended during the two-day exercise, with four females among them, while assorted drugs and related materials were confiscated.
Speaking on the operation, CN D.Y. Lawal described the approach as “dislodge and occupy,” explaining that the agency would continue to dismantle criminal drug hubs, arrest offenders, and maintain presence until normalcy is restored.
He added that “Operation Sharar Mafaka” will be sustained and urged members of the public to support the agency’s efforts in making Kano’s communities safer.
The NDLEA said the operation aligns with the national objective of achieving a drug-free society under the leadership of its Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.).
The command also reaffirmed its commitment to continuous enforcement, community engagement, and collaboration with stakeholders to eliminate illicit drug activities in the state.
