the kwara state police command on wednesday recovered a toyota matrix vehicle allegedly stolen from a parking space earlier in the day.
according to a statement by the police public relations officer, sp adetoun ejire-adeyemi, made available to journalists on wednesday, the vehicle was recovered using modern policing technology along the ilorin–jebba road later in the evening.
the statement read, “the kwara state police command recorded another significant operational success through the effective deployment of modern policing technology, leading to the swift recovery of a stolen vehicle in ilorin.
“on april 27, 2026, at about 1400hrs, the command received a report at the anti-car theft section of the state criminal investigation department, ilorin, that a toyota matrix vehicle was stolen earlier at about 1100hrs from a parking space at mandate market, ilorin.
“acting promptly, operatives activated an integrated vehicle tracking and immobilisation system linked to the vehicle’s security device. the technology enabled real-time geolocation tracking and remote engine immobilisation, which significantly aided the recovery effort.
“the vehicle’s location was successfully traced to the jebba expressway axis, where it was found abandoned by the roadside. preliminary findings also revealed that the suspects attempted to frustrate identification by altering the registration number, while the original plate number was recovered nearby.”
the police added that the vehicle had been secured at the state criminal investigation department, ilorin, for further investigation.
“concerted efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators,” the statement said.
the command reiterated its commitment to leveraging modern technology and intelligence-led policing to combat crime and ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
