A video allegedly showing officers attached to the Edo State Police Command harassing an individual has surfaced on social media.

The footage, which began circulating on X on Thursday, captures at least five uniformed officers surrounding a person lying on the ground near a white bus.

In the clip, one officer appears to drag the individual by the legs while another hits him with a plastic pipe.

Despite the individual’s visible struggle, he was quickly overpowered by the group of officers.

The Edo State Police Command has acknowledged the footage, stating that an investigation is underway.

Responding to the video on X, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, provided a brief update, stating, “We are already on it, please. I have shared this video with the CRU Benin, and the team is already identifying these men.”

“The command has launched an investigation into this video. Meanwhile, anyone with clearer footage should kindly send the same as document to my DM or WhatsApp, please,” she added.

The incident comes amid growing public concern over police conduct.

According to Hotjist, there was a recent fatal shooting in Delta State, where a suspect identified as Mene Ogidi was killed by a police officer in broad daylight in Effurun.

The Delta State Police Command confirmed that the officer involved, ASP Nuhu Usman, has been arrested and transferred to Force Headquarters for further disciplinary proceedings.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has taken a firm position on the case, approving the immediate dismissal and prosecution of the officers linked to Ogidi’s death.
