The Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Abayomi Akinruntan, has resigned from his position.

Akinruntan, who represents Ilaje Constituency 1, cited the need to uphold the conventional zoning arrangement for elective offices in the state as the reason for his decision.

In a similar move, the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, who represents Owo Constituency 1, also stepped down from his role, aligning with the same political understanding.

Following Akinruntan’s resignation, Ololade Gbegudu, representing Okitipupa Constituency 2, was sworn in as the new Deputy Speaker.

Likewise, Olatunji Oshati, representing Ose Constituency, was elected as the new Majority Leader, succeeding Ogunmolasuyi.

In further leadership changes within the Assembly, Muritala Sulaimon, representing Akoko South East Constituency, was announced as the new Chief Whip, while Hon. Olatunji Fabiyi of Odigbo Constituency 1 assumed the role of Whip.

The Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji, commended the former Deputy Speaker and Majority Leader for their dedication, integrity, and service to the people of the state.

Akinruntan hails from Ilaje Local Government Area, the same as the state Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Meanwhile, Ogunmolasuyi is from Owo Local Government Area, where the Deputy Governor, Olayide Adelami, originates.
