LAGOS GOVT SAYS ILUBIRIN FORESHORE HOUSING PROJECT ON TRACK FOR 2026 COMPLETION
The Lagos State Government (LASG) has said there is no truth in the rumour that it has abandoned the Ilubirin Foreshore Housing Project, adding that it is still on track for 2026 completion.
The Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, who stated this while leading a high-level inspection team to the Ilubirin Foreshore Housing Project, emphasized that the project’s progression aligns seamlessly with the THEMES Plus Agenda, specifically
targeting the “Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy” pillar by significantly increasing housing stock.
“Work is presently ongoing at the Ilubirin Foreshore Housing Scheme,” he stated, urging the First Investment Development Company (FIDC) to ensure the completion of the first phase, comprising over 180 apartments, by December 2026.
The Commissioner’s assertion came during a joint inspection with the management of IBILE Holdings Limited, including Executive Director, Mumeenat Babs and Managing Director, Akintunde Odeyemi, alongside Mr. Adebisi Adebutu, CEO/Managing Director of First Investment
Development Company/Ilubirin Foreshore Project Limited, and his team.
“Part of this administration’s commitment is to ensure that more Lagosians become homeowners,” Akinderu-Fatai reiterated.
Mr. Adebutu of FIDC corroborated the Commissioner’s statements, confirming that the housing project is indeed active. He acknowledged previous challenges related to flood control but highlighted a “full-scale transformation” now underway.
He said, “The transformation includes a new canal redirection system and an elevation of the site to 2.5 meters above sea level, comprehensively addressing long-standing sanitation and flooding issues across Lagos Island and its environs.
Adebutu also pledged a “solid plan” to deliver the project’s First Phase not later than the Fourth Quarter of 2026. He further detailed the comprehensive master plan for the Ilubirin Foreshore Housing Scheme, which aims to deliver over 2,000 apartments.
This expansive development will also integrate crucial social amenities, including green public spaces, healthcare facilities, educational infrastructure, and a 1,000-capacity waterfront events centre, which is currently under construction
