TINUBU’S SUBSIDY REMOVAL FUNDING ENUGU’S MASSIVE INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS – GOV MBAH

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s removal of petrol subsidy as the key enabler of the state’s ongoing critical infrastructure projects.
Speaking on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, while receiving a federal government delegation led by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, Mbah said the policy had “unlocked resources” needed to deliver on campaign promises.
“For us in Enugu, we have been able to deliver on all the promises we made to our people during the campaign, thanks to the courageous decision by President Bola Tinubu, which has unlocked resources required to implement massive capital projects,” the Governor said.
Mbah listed flagship projects underway, including the provision of 3,300 hospital beds, construction of 7,000 classrooms, and development of 2,000 hectares for 260 farm estates across the state’s 260 wards.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting federal policies aimed at improving the welfare of Enugu residents.
Tinubu had, during his May 29, 2025 inaugural speech, declared that “subsidy is gone,” leading to petrol prices jumping from N180 to over N1,000 per litre, and triggering spikes in food and transportation costs. While the policy has faced criticism over its economic impact, the President has maintained it is a necessary step for long-term national development.
