The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Folajinmi Oyekunle, has emerged winner of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election conducted across the 12 wards on Saturday.

The declaration was made by the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Abiodun Oluwadare of the University of Ibadan, at the collation centre in Ikolaba High School, Ibadan.

According to him, Oyekunle secured 18,404 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Adewale Olatunji, popularly called Murphy, who scored 8,312 votes.

He further announced that Femi Akin-Alamu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) garnered 88 votes, while Olabisi Olajumoke of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) finished with 40 votes.

He also disclosed that the candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, Hammed Badmus, had 18 votes.

“This is the declaration. I, Professor Abiodun Oluwadare, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the 2025 Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election, held on the 16th day of August, 2024.

“That Folajinmi Oyekunle of the Peoples Democratic Party, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the election,” he said.

With this victory, Oyekunle will officially replace the late lawmaker, Musiliu Akinremi, popularly known as Jagaban, whose death created the vacancy and necessitated the by-election.

The outcome has been hailed as a significant milestone for the PDP, marking the party’s successful reclamation of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat for the first time since 2011.
