NSCDC SEEKS PUBLIC HELP TO IDENTIFY HEARING-IMPAIRED TEENAGE GIRL FOUND IN OSOGBO
Agency Report

The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken custody of a hearing and speech-impaired teenage girl found wandering on the streets of Osogbo, the state capital, and is appealing to the public for help in identifying her family.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, the Corps disclosed that the girl, estimated to be between 15 and 16 years old, was discovered by concerned residents along the Odi-Olowo area of Osogbo.
According to the NSCDC, the girl was unable to provide any information about her identity or place of residence due to her condition.
“She was subsequently brought to the NSCDC office for safety. Preliminary observations indicate that the girl is unable to speak and hear, and she has not been able to provide any useful information regarding her identity, family, or place of residence,” the statement read.
The command, under the leadership of Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo, has called on members of the public who may have any useful information to assist in identifying the girl or locating her relatives to come forward.
It also urged parents, guardians, or relatives searching for a missing child matching the girl’s description to contact the NSCDC office located along Iwo-Ibadan Road, Onibueja, Ido-Osun.
The agency assured that the girl remains in safe custody while efforts continue to reunite her with her family.
The development comes amid ongoing concerns about the welfare of vulnerable children in the state. In a related incident in May 2025, the NSCDC sealed an unregistered private home for children with disabilities in Osogbo after discovering cases of malnutrition and inadequate care.
Authorities have reiterated the importance of community vigilance and prompt reporting to safeguard vulnerable individuals.
