The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a notorious “one chance” kingpin and two members of his gang during a routine patrol along Agege Motor Road in Ikeja.

The suspects, identified as Bode Oludayisin, 53; Michael Sowunmi, 22; and David Olawaye, 20, were apprehended after a victim raised an alarm while being robbed inside their minibus. Police operatives from the Ikeja Division swiftly responded and intercepted the unregistered commercial vehicle, later confirmed to be the syndicate’s operational bus.

Recovered from the suspects were a Tecno Spark 20 smartphone belonging to a victim, an axe, two concrete interlock bricks, several heavy stones, and a broken bottle all believed to have been used as weapons in previous attacks.

Police investigations revealed that the gang operated under the guise of commercial transporters, using minibuses (popularly known as Korope) to lure unsuspecting commuters, especially from busy hubs such as Oshodi. Victims were reportedly diverted to isolated areas, where they were robbed under threats and violence.

One of the arrested suspects has been identified as a wanted gang leader linked to multiple violent robberies across Lagos. The case has now been transferred to the Command’s Special Squad 1, which has launched a manhunt for fleeing members of the syndicate.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers for their quick response, which led to the capture of the gang. He also urged residents to exercise caution, avoid boarding unmarked vehicles, and promptly report suspicious activities via the Command’s emergency numbers: 08063299264, 09168631003.
