POWER OUTAGE HITS 43,000 HOUSEHOLDS IN BERLIN

BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
German police believe an arson attack that has left thousands of civilians without power supply in south-eastern Berlin was politically motivated.
Preliminary inquiries indicate that the persistent power outage was attributed to intentional fire setting, as two high-voltage transmission towers in the city’s Johannisthal area were engulfed in flames.
A police spokesman said on Tuesday morning.
The selection of the target along with the method of execution indicates that the assault was conducted by extremists, authorities reported in a subsequent update.
The political affiliations of the offenders were initially ambiguous.
Approximately 43,000 residences and around 3,000 enterprises in the regions of Altglienicke, Grünau, Adlershof, Spindlersfeld, Alt-Johannisthal, and Oberschöneweide have been deprived of electricity since the early hours of Tuesday.

A representative for the emergency services stated that it may require some time to restore the power supply.
Firefighters were dispatched to two assisted living facilities, with several patients being relocated to nearby hospitals.
The outage has also interrupted tram services in the vicinity as well as traffic signals, according to authorities.
