Filmmaker Tyler Perry, renowned for works such as Acrimony and the widely celebrated Madea comedy series, is contending with a $260 million sexual assault lawsuit following actor Derek Dixon’s public disclosure of allegations concerning harassment and maltreatment. Dixon, who portrayed Dale on Perry’s BET drama The Oval, made these accusations known.

In his initial televised interview with ABC News on September 9, 2025, Dixon asserted that Perry fostered a manipulative environment that obscured professional boundaries and instilled fear for his career.

He alleged that Perry forcibly removed his underwear and grasped his buttocks at the producer’s residence in Atlanta. “I was under constant pressure, terrified that I’d be dismissed from my position or removed from the show if I did not acquiesce,” Dixon stated.

Commenting on the magnitude of the damages, Dixon conveyed that the lawsuit encompasses both personal losses and serves as a deterrent against misconduct. “A portion of that figure pertains to my lost employment, my diminished income, and the cancellation of a show. The remaining portion is a preventive measure against how one can halt a billionaire who persists in such behavior,” he clarified.

Furthermore, he accused Perry of failing to follow through on a commitment to produce a pilot he authored, which he indicated Perry continues to oversee.

Notwithstanding the potential repercussions of going public, Dixon remarked that he chose to speak out “to safeguard future generations of actors and creatives,” emphasizing: “Never take advantage of someone’s ambitions to compel them into a relationship. That is unprofessional. ”

In response to the allegations, Perry’s attorney, Matthew Boyd, stated: “This is an individual who formed a close association with Tyler Perry who now appears to be orchestrating an intricate deception. However, Tyler will not be intimidated, and we are assured that these baseless harassment allegations will not prevail. ”

Dixon became a part of Perry’s productions in 2020 and lodged a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in January 2024 before departing from The Oval later that year.

His lawsuit of June 2025 has since heightened scrutiny regarding workplace harassment and power imbalances within the entertainment industry.

As of now, Dixon remains the sole publicly named accuser, while Perry has refuted all allegations.
