President Bola Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke have arrived in Ibadan for the coronation of the new Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
The distinguished guests are participating in the historical event taking place at Mapo Hall, where Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State and senator, is being formally installed as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Oba Ladoja, a previous governor of Oyo State and senator of the Federal Republic, was selected as the 44th Olubadan following the demise of Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin on July 7, 2025.
At the age of 81, the new monarch brings decades of experience in governance, commerce, and community leadership.
His elevation to the throne follows a lengthy journey through the traditional Olubadan chieftaincy hierarchy, where he ascended through various ranks to achieve the pinnacle.
Enthusiasm enveloped the ancient city on Friday, as residents and supporters gathered to witness the historic event.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland serves as the paramount traditional ruler of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, and one of the largest urban centers in West Africa.
The position holds profound cultural, historical, and political significance among the Yoruba people, rendering the coronation of Oba Ladoja a moment of pride for the city and beyond.
