LSMTL ORGANISES TRAINING FOR OFFICERS, CLERICAL STAFF TO ENHANCE SERVICE DELIVERY

The Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory Agency (LSMTL) has organised a three-day training programme to equip its officers and clerical staff on Grade Levels 03-10, with advanced skills for exceptional Service Delivery and effective Workplace Management.

The training, held from Monday, 22nd September to Wednesday, 24th September 2025 with the theme: “Excellence in Service: Delivering for Customers and Thriving in the Workplace”, underscores the Agency’s commitment to strengthening its internal capacity and fostering a culture of Professionalism, Efficiency, and Customer-Centricity in executing the mandate of the Agency on Materials Testing processes.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the General Manager, LSMTL Engr. Olayinka Abdul stated that the initiative was part of the Agency’s strategic plan to improve operational efficiency and ensure that the structural integrity of buildings across Lagos State is upheld.

The General Manager, represented by the Director, Administration and Human Resources, Mr. Adewunmi Abayomi, said “the training curriculum was designed to address two critical areas of professional development through Effective Service Delivery to Customers, with view to enhancing communication skills, managing client expectations, streamlining service processes, and handling inquiries and feedback with professionalism, such that participants will learn techniques to ensure that developers, contractors, and members of the public receive timely, courteous, and efficient service.

“The programme aims to empower staff with strategies for effective upward management, understanding Managerial Styles, Proactive Communication, Priority Management, Building trust, and effectively leveraging resources to achieve departmental and agency goals, “ she added.

Speaking further on the relevance of the training, Engr. Abdul elucidated “Our staff are the backbone of this Agency. Investing in their professional development is directly linked to our mission of safeguarding lives and properties through quality assurance. This training is not just about skills; it’s about mindset. We need to work on rebuilding the capabilities of our Staff in this regard.”

The General Manager implored the participating Clerical Officers to be more proactive, understand the bigger picture, and work synergistically with their supervisors with ultimate translation for faster turnaround times, clearer communication with clients, and a more harmonious and productive work environment.

She averred that the critical role which LSMTL plays in the Built Environment sector of Lagos State, is one directed at ensuring construction materials and procedures meet specified standards to serve its stakeholders, even as it contributes to the Lagos State Government’s vision of a sustainable, well-planned, and secure megacity, through excellent Service delivery.

Highlights of the training were the presentation of certificates to participants, as a bond to be of good demeanour in executing the Agency’s mandate.
