President Bola Tinubu on Friday called on the family of the late Chief Audu Ogbeh to uphold the values of humility, compassion, and integrity that distinguished the elder statesman as an outstanding political leader.

The President, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, spoke during the burial of the former Minister of Agriculture at his country home in Efugo, Otukpa, Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State.

Ogbeh, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former National Chairman of the party, was laid to rest at about 1:18 p.m. in a ceremony attended by top government officials, political leaders, and dignitaries.

In a tribute titled “Contributions of Chief Audu Ogbeh to the Political Development of Nigeria,” Tinubu described the late politician as a unifying personality whose legacy would endure for generations.

“We equally remember him for his humility, compassion, and generosity. He was a unifying personality who bridged divides and brought people together. His impact on Nigerian politics and society will be felt for generations to come,” the President said.

He added that Ogbeh’s political contributions transcended party lines, noting his roles in the PDP, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and later the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Chief Ogbeh also played a critical role in Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999 and worked tirelessly to promote unity and stability,” Tinubu said, stressing that his dedication to public service was unwavering.

Among those present at the burial were the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev; Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Barr. Pius Akutah; Executive Director of Housing Finance and Accounts, FHA, Dr. Mathias Byuan; Senator Titus Zam; Benue State Deputy Governor, Sam Ode; former Anambra Governor, Chris Ngige; and former Benue Deputy Governor, Chief Steven Lawani, among others.
