The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, will officially defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Enugu.

The development was confirmed on Friday by the newly inaugurated Enugu APC Caretaker Chairman, Dr Ben Nwoye, after his swearing-in ceremony at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

Nwoye disclosed that Governor Mbah would be joining the APC alongside top political figures in Enugu State, including members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, and ward councillors.

“For the past 10 years, Enugu State has remained in opposition. But all that will change on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, when the governor will be declaring for the APC,” Nwoye said.

“The governor is not coming alone. He will be declaring with 260 ward councillors, 24 members of the House of Assembly, members of the National Assembly, and the entire State Executive Council,” he added.

Earlier, the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and the Deputy National Chairman (South), Emma Eneukwu, inaugurated a seven-member caretaker committee for the party in Enugu State, emphasizing ongoing efforts to strengthen the APC’s presence and influence in the South-East.

Yilwatda urged the new committee to focus on rebuilding and expanding the party’s membership base in Enugu, while also maintaining unity and loyalty among existing members.

“We want to see the number of people we have in the APC increase under your leadership without forgetting the members that have laboured, suffered, and built the party,” he said.

He stressed the need for inclusiveness within the party, adding that both old and new members must be treated equally in line with the APC Constitution.

The APC National Chairman also expressed optimism that the party would achieve overwhelming victory in the 2027 general elections, urging the caretaker committee to avoid factionalism and personal interests while discharging their duties.

Earlier in the week, the APC National Working Committee had dissolved the Enugu State Executive Committee to pave the way for Mbah’s anticipated defection a move seen as part of broader realignment efforts ahead of the 2027 polls.
