The Lagos State Police Command, through its Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), joined the global community to mark the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child with the theme, “My Identity, My Power: Creating Safer Spaces for the Nigerian Girl Child.”

The event, held at Gbaja Girls Senior High School, Surulere, aimed to empower young girls to embrace their identity, use their voices for positive change, and secure a future free from social vices.

Speaking at the programme, officials urged the students to avoid cultism, hooliganism, drug abuse, and other behaviours that could endanger their lives and futures.

They highlighted that the power to create change lies in speaking out, resisting negative peer pressure, and upholding values that promote peace and safety.

The event attracted key dignitaries, including the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, represented by DCP Dayo Akinbisehin, ACP Oluwatoyin Kazeem (Officer-in-Charge, Gender Unit), Chief P.K. Sham (Patron, POCACOV), Dr. Moses Oladimeji (Chairman, POCACOV Lagos State), Ambassador Samuel Eniola (South West Chairman, represented by Chief Mrs. Victoria Omotayo), Mrs. Oyefeso (Principal, Gbaja Girls Senior High School), and Mr. Bassey Henry John (Former Lagos State Chairman, POCACOV).

Corporate partners provided support for the initiative, reinforcing the collective effort to create safer spaces for girls and strengthen their confidence to lead positive change in society.

The programme showcased Lagos Police’s commitment to youth empowerment, safety, and community engagement, particularly for young girls navigating social challenges.
