FRSC, GOMBE POLICE DEBUNK RUMOURS OF FATAL NYSC CORPS MEMBERS’ CRASH

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Gombe State authorities have dismissed viral reports claiming that prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to Gombe State were involved in a fatal road crash.
The NYSC orientation camp in Gombe has officially opened, with prospective corps members scheduled to be sworn in on Friday. A viral post had alleged that the crash killed 16 people and left two others critically injured.
However, verification by journalists and inquiries with relevant authorities revealed the reports to be false. FRSC Public Relations Officer, Janet Kassa, said, “I have checked with my colleagues there is no indication this happened in Gombe, not to mention that it even occurred. This may be one of those posts designed to get comments and views.”
Similarly, Gombe State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed that there was no evidence of such a crash. “From morning till now, no new findings have emerged. The reports circulated lacked critical details, including the hospital or exact location,” he said.
The NYSC Gombe Public Relations Officer, Jennifer Laha, also dismissed the circulating images as suspicious, noting inconsistencies and signs that they may have been artificially generated. “From the pictures I saw, they looked like AI-generated images, with misspellings and other inaccuracies. NYSC does not provide buses for prospective corps members to orientation camps,” she added.
Authorities have urged the public to disregard the viral claims and rely only on official statements from verified sources.
