Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), months after resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing ideological differences.

El-Rufai formally registered with the ADC at the party office in Unguwar Sarki Ward, Kaduna State, where he received his membership card. He was accompanied by loyal supporters, including former aides and local government chairmen.

Speaking at the event alongside party officials including ADC Vice Chairman (North West), Hon. Jafaru Sani, and National Membership Secretary, Senator Sadiq Yar’adua — El-Rufai pledged to use the platform to “confront incompetent leadership” in the state.

“I’m a bona fide member of the African Democratic Congress,” he declared.

“By the grace of God, we are going to repeat what we did in 2015, when we got rid of the incompetent, thieving and corrupt PDP administration.”

The former minister accused the current APC-led government in Kaduna of failing to deliver on its promises and operating with impunity.

“We contributed to bringing them into office. We therefore have a duty to contribute to sending them back home before they go to prison,” he said.

El-Rufai also alleged that some political groups declined coalition efforts due to government interference, stating:

“The SDP would not agree to open up to the coalition leadership because the government has bribed and compromised some of the leaders. Happily, the ADC agreed to the terms and conditions.”

He called on eligible voters in Kaduna State to register with the ADC ahead of future elections.

The registration came with symbolic weight as El-Rufai was assigned membership number 000002, following the coalition’s Vice National Chairman (North West), who received 000001.

Recall that on March 10, El-Rufai resigned from the APC, citing a widening disconnect between his values and the current leadership direction. In his letter, he criticised the party for abandoning its founding progressive ideals and said repeated warnings over the past two years were ignored.

El-Rufai played a pivotal role in the 2013 merger that birthed the APC but said recent developments showed no willingness by the party leadership to address critical internal issues.
