OSUN PDP SUSPENDS GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARIES AS LEADERSHIP CRISIS DEEPENS, ADELEKE MAY WITHDRAW FROM RACE

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has announced the suspension of its governorship primaries earlier scheduled for Tuesday, December 2, 2025, citing an escalating leadership crisis at the national level that has disrupted critical pre-primary processes.
State Chairman of the party, Hon. Sunday Bisi, disclosed this during a press briefing on Monday, stating that the internal turmoil rocking the PDP’s national leadership marked by suspensions and counter-suspensions of key officers had created uncertainty that made the conduct of the primaries impossible.
Bisi explained that Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, the sole aspirant who purchased and submitted the party’s nomination forms, had fulfilled all requirements, including screening and clearance by the PDP’s Screening Committee on October 30, 2025.
However, the crisis at the national secretariat stalled the statutory ward and local government congresses scheduled for November 24 and 29, during which delegates for the primaries were to be elected. The disruptions, now subjects of multiple court actions nationwide, rendered the primary timeline unworkable.
“In light of the foregoing, it has become inevitable that the PDP governorship primaries can no longer hold as scheduled,” Bisi announced.
He further revealed that Governor Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the PDP’s nomination for the 2026 Osun governorship election unless a nationally recognized resolution acceptable to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is reached within INEC’s timeline.
While noting that only the PDP National Secretariat has the authority to conduct primaries once the crisis is resolved, Bisi emphasized the need to keep party members and citizens informed.
“We assure you that the leadership of the party, both at the state and national levels, is working round the clock to ensure a lawful, workable, and timely resolution to the challenges at hand,” he stated.
The development adds a new layer of uncertainty to the political landscape in Osun State, where Governor Adeleke was expected to seek re-election under the PDP banner.
