President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday received Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, in what is believed to be part of ongoing efforts to secure the release of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Otti arrived at the President’s office complex dressed in a grey, knee-length traditional. Although details of the closed-door meeting were not immediately disclosed, it comes just days after the governor’s visit to the Sokoto Correctional Centre, where Kanu is currently serving his sentence.

During the Sokoto visit, Otti was accompanied by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu; the Abia State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma. Access to the facility was facilitated by officials of the Sokoto State Government.

Speaking with journalists after the prison visit, Otti reaffirmed that issues surrounding Kanu’s prolonged detention remain a key priority for his administration. Through his media aide, he noted that Abia State is adopting a coordinated and lawful approach to securing the IPOB leader’s release.

“While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free to appeal his conviction, I’m happy to inform you that I have activated and will continue to work on the already agreed strategy until his freedom is secured,” the governor stated.

Tuesday’s meeting with President Tinubu is widely seen as a continuation of Otti’s political and legal engagements aimed at resolving the long-running matter.
