Some students from Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka have asked the Federal Government to completely follow the decision of the National Industrial Court and bring back Professor Bernard Odoh as the Vice-Chancellor of the university.

The students, who are part of the Nigerian Students and Youth Association, UNIZIK chapter, asked the Minister of Education to take action right away to bring back Professor Odoh, following the court‘s decision exactly as it was stated.

President of the group, Mr. Chisom Nwangwu, said that Professor Odoh was taken out of his job by the Federal Ministry of Education because there were claims that he wasn’t actually a professor and therefore not qualified for the position.

But he added that the National Industrial Court later confirmed that Professor Odoh was properly promoted to the rank of professor in 2015.
The court also ordered that all his rights, benefits, and privileges be completely restored.

Nwangwu emphasized that respecting court decisions is very important for building a strong nation. He said that obeying court orders is essential if the country is to follow the rule of law.

He also worried that not following the court‘s decision, especially when the Vice-Chancellor’s position wasn’t actually vacant, could set a bad example.

“This persistent disregard for a valid court order undermines democratic values and sends the wrong signal to citizens. Such actions should not be allowed to define us as a people or as a democratic society,” Nwangwu said.

He said that Professor Odoh is the first graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University to become Vice-Chancellor, and he expressed regret over his removal. He described the action as being caused by false accusations that were meant to stop a young academic who has a forwardthinking plan for the university‘s growth.

The student leader also asked President Bola Tinubu to step in and help with the situation, pointing out that his government is built on fairness, justice, and respect for the law.

According to him, such an intervention would help reaffirm public confidence in democratic institutions and reassure young Nigerians that justice, fairness and equality before the law remain attainable in the country.
