LAGOS HIGH COURT ANNOUNCES 2025 CHRISTMAS VACATION, RESUME SITTINGS JANUARY 5
By Aishat Momoh. O.

The High Court of Lagos State has announced its 2025 Christmas vacation, which will run from Wednesday, December 24, 2025, to Friday, January 2, 2026, with regular court sittings set to resume on Monday, January 5, 2026.
The approval was granted by the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Honourable Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, in line with the provisions of Order 49 Rules 4(c) and 5 of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.
A notice to this effect, signed by the Chief Registrar, Mr. T. A. Elias, and dated November 26, 2025, confirmed that the vacation period covers both the commencement and terminal dates inclusive.
According to the notice, although regular court proceedings will be suspended during the vacation, judges will continue to attend to urgent matters. Each judge will handle urgent applications arising from substantive cases already assigned to them, while fresh urgent applications without an assigned substantive suit will be heard by judges specifically designated for that purpose.
The notice further clarified that, notwithstanding the Christmas vacation, any cause or matter may still be heard during the period if it is duly certified as urgent, provided all conditions stipulated under Order 49 Rule 5 are strictly complied with.
The Christmas vacation is in accordance with established judicial practice, allowing the court to manage its calendar while ensuring that urgent and time-sensitive matters continue to receive prompt attention.
Normal court activities will fully resume on January 5, 2026, following the conclusion of the vacation period.
