OGUN STATE GOVERNMENT MOURNS VICTIMS OF FATAL LAGOS–IBADAN EXPRESSWAY CRASH INVOLVING ANTHONY JOSHUA

The Ogun State Government has expressed deep sorrow over a fatal road accident involving world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, which claimed the lives of two persons.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday at the Makun axis of the expressway in Ogun State. Joshua, who was travelling with three other individuals from Lagos to Sagamu, narrowly escaped death in the crash.
According to preliminary reports, two male foreign nationals died instantly at the scene. Their remains have been deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu. Anthony Joshua and the driver of the vehicle were rescued by security personnel attached to his convoy and taken to a hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
The sport utility vehicle conveying the occupants reportedly crashed into a stationary truck along the highway. The badly damaged vehicle has been evacuated to the Sagamu Motor Traffic Division office, while arrangements are ongoing to tow the truck involved to the same location to aid a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the accident.
Describing the incident as painful and deeply unfortunate, the Ogun State Government lamented the loss of lives and noted that other victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving treatment.
The state government urged motorists to exercise caution and strictly obey traffic regulations, especially during the festive period when road traffic is usually heavy. It also called on road safety and security agencies to intensify surveillance and enforcement across the state to safeguard lives and property.
The government extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed, as well as the speedy recovery of those injured.
