The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned residents of Ekiti State against multiple registrations for the Permanent Voter Card (PVC), noting that offenders would face appropriate sanctions.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti, Bunmi Omoseyindemi, stated, “Anyone who attempts or engages in multiple registration, or commits other violations during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the state, will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”

Omoseyindemi made the remarks to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Monday while announcing the launch of the second phase of CVR in the state.

He added, “This phase offers a fresh opportunity for those who missed phase one to register or update their voter information.”

He urged stakeholders to “encourage those who missed previous registration exercises, especially individuals who have recently turned 18, to register so they can exercise their civic right to vote in the June 20 elections and future polls.”

The first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), which ran from August 25 to December 10, 2025, concluded to allow for the display of registered voter data for claims and objections.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner added, “Following the first phase, the display of claims and objections took place from December 15 to 21, 2025. This provided stakeholders and the public with an opportunity to review the registration data, raise concerns, and make corrections where necessary, including errors in name spelling and other personal information.”

INEC has scheduled the Ekiti State Governorship election for June 20, 2026, to elect the occupant of the Office of Governor, effective from October 16.

On December 29, 2025, the commission released the provisional list of candidates for the election.

Under INEC guidelines, political parties have until January 12 to withdraw or replace candidates, after which the final list of nominated candidates for the participating parties will be published on January 19.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, who recently reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections in the state, urged political parties, politicians, voters, and residents to support initiatives aimed at strengthening public confidence in the electoral process.
