The chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the 27 Local Government Areas of Jigawa State have passed a vote of confidence in the state party leadership, endorsing the state chairman, Babandi Gumel, and former governor Sule Lamido.
The declaration comes amid ongoing leadership disputes at the national level of the party, where rival factions are contesting control and calling for changes in the PDP’s leadership structure. Against this backdrop, the Jigawa PDP chairmen said their decision was aimed at reaffirming unity and stability within the party in the state.
Last Friday, the PDP Board of Trustees announced the suspension of Lamido over allegations of anti-party activities and inflammatory statements linked to recent internal crises. The endorsement by the Jigawa chairmen is therefore viewed as a significant boost to the former governor’s standing, following opposition from some factions within the party.
The vote of confidence was announced during a special meeting of the chairmen held on Tuesday at the party’s state secretariat in Dutse.
Speaking on behalf of the chairmen, the Chairman of the Dutse Local Government Chapter and Forum Chairman, Sa’adu Barwa, said they remained firmly committed to the PDP and its leadership in Jigawa State. He stressed that the chairmen would not be distracted by the ongoing national crisis, reaffirming their allegiance to the party and its leadership.
Barwa urged party members to remain calm, united and focused, noting that the party’s success depended on collective effort. He expressed confidence that the PDP would overcome its challenges and emerge stronger.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Hadejia Local Government Area and Vice Chairman of the forum, Adamu Muhd, described the endorsement as a reflection of the chairmen’s loyalty to the party. He said they were committed to working closely with the state chairman and Lamido to ensure the PDP’s success in Jigawa State, while calling on other party members to demonstrate similar loyalty and unity.
In his remarks, the PDP state chairman, Babandi Gumel, expressed appreciation for the support of the chairmen and pledged to continue leading the party towards electoral success in the state. Represented at the meeting by his deputy, Umar Danjani, Gumel commended the chairmen for their unwavering loyalty and assured them of the party’s continued commitment to strengthening the PDP in Jigawa State.
The meeting was attended by prominent PDP stakeholders, including former lawmakers and party leaders, who also voiced their support for the party’s state leadership.
