AFCON: FIVE FORMER AFRICAN PLAYERS OF THE YEAR VIE FOR FINAL SPOT

Five former African Player of the Year winners are set to take centre stage in the AFCON semi-finals.
They are Senegal’s Sadio Mane, Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, and the Nigerian duo Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman.
Hakimi, the newly crowned African Player of the Year, has already provided one assist from right-back after returning from a long-term injury.
Lookman, named the 2024 African Player of the Year, has contributed three goals and four assists for Nigeria so far in the tournament.
Osimhen, the 2023 African Player of the Year, has recorded four goals and two assists for the Super Eagles.
Mane, a two-time winner in 2019 and 2022, has added one goal and three assists for Senegal in the AFCON.
Salah, who claimed the award in 2017 and 2018, has scored four goals and provided one assist for Egypt in Morocco.
The AFCON semi-finals kick off on Wednesday evening, with Senegal taking on Egypt and Morocco facing Nigeria.
The winners of these matches will advance to the AFCON final, scheduled for this weekend.
