At least 50 people lost their lives in road accidents across Bauchi State during the last quarter of 2025, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has disclosed.
The Sector Commander, Apaji Boyi, told journalists in Bauchi on Wednesday that 76 crashes occurred between October and December 2025, resulting in 468 injuries, while 193 passengers escaped unharmed.
Breaking it down by month, Boyi said: “In October 2025, there were 10 crashes involving 77 people, with eight deaths and 58 injuries. November saw 25 crashes affecting 201 people, resulting in 14 fatalities and 144 injuries. December was the deadliest, with 41 crashes involving 433 individuals, leading to 28 deaths and 266 injuries.”
He attributed many of the accidents to factors such as excessive speeding, reckless overtaking, driver fatigue, overloading, and the unsafe practice of transporting passengers in goods trucks.
Boyi also warned that some motorists continue to carry fuel in plastic containers, further endangering passengers.
Stressing that driver behaviour is a key factor in road safety, he highlighted common violations including speeding, ignoring traffic rules, drug use, failing to wear seat belts, and using phones while driving—all of which contribute to preventable crashes.
He praised the Federal Government for its support of the Corps and urged motorists to maintain their vehicles, drive patiently, and adhere to traffic regulations.
The sector commander affirmed that the FRSC in Bauchi State will continue to step up public awareness campaigns to enhance road safety across the state.
