LAGOS GOVERNMENT INITIATES 2026 HAJJ PILGRIMS’ MEDICAL EXAMINATION

Lagos State Government has commenced medical screening for residents preparing to undertake the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Mr. AbdulHakeem Ajomagberin, Secretary of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board. The exercise is scheduled to run from Wednesday, January 14, to Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Ajomagberin explained that the screenings, coordinated by the Board’s medical team under Dr. Mazeedat Erinosho, will take place at 10 designated centres across the state, strategically selected for accessibility and efficiency.
Local Government Areas have been grouped to specific screening locations:
- Agege and Ifako-Ijaiye pilgrims: Agege Local Government Secretariat and General Hospital, Orile-Agege.
- Ikeja and Oshodi-Isolo: Ikeja Local Government Secretariat and designated diagnostic centres at LASUTH, Ikeja.
- Shomolu and Mushin: Mushin Local Government Secretariat and approved diagnostic centres.
- Eti-Osa, Epe, and Ibeju-Lekki: General Hospital, Ibeju-Lekki.
- Badagry and Ojo: General Hospital, Badagry.
- Other centres include: Ajeromi-Ifelodun for Amuwo-Odofin, Apapa, and Ajeromi-Ifelodun; Surulere for Surulere, Lagos Mainland, and Lagos Island; Ikorodu for Ikorodu and Kosofe; Alimosho for Alimosho pilgrims; and designated facilities at LASUTH, Ikeja for government officials.
The Board Secretary emphasized that attendance is mandatory, warning that pilgrims who fail to undergo medical screening will be disqualified from obtaining a visa from Saudi authorities.
In a related development, the Board has appointed Local Government Schedule Officers to manage the welfare of pilgrims both in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. The appointments, approved by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mr. Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, were announced during a meeting at the Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, attended by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Islamic Matters, Hon. Ahmad Abdullahi Jebe.
Ajomagberin urged the newly appointed officers to demonstrate dedication and professionalism, assuring that the Lagos State Government is committed to ensuring a safe, orderly, and comfortable pilgrimage experience for all pilgrims.
