The Ogun State Police Command has filed a six-count charge of cyberbullying against activist Adetoun Onajobi, popularly known as Just Adetoun, declaring her evasive after she allegedly failed to honour repeated police invitations.

The charges, which are pending before the Federal High Court, Abeokuta Division, stem from allegations that Onajobi used social media and other internet-enabled platforms to publish false and defamatory content against the Ogun State Government and to cyberbully Governor Dapo Abiodun, in violation of provisions of the Cybercrimes Act.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the activist was first invited for questioning on January 2, 2026, but did not appear.

According to the statement, Onajobi, through her lawyer, claimed she was medically indisposed and unable to attend the interview, attaching a medical report purportedly issued by a doctor. However, the police said subsequent investigations revealed that the medical report was fabricated.

The command disclosed that the doctor who issued the report was arrested and later admitted that the document was forged at the activist’s instruction during a phone conversation. The doctor has since been arraigned before an Ogun State Magistrates’ Court on charges of conspiracy, uttering a false document, and obstructing the course of justice.

Babaseyi said Onajobi has since remained unreachable and has avoided all attempts by the police to secure her presence.

“The suspect has remained evasive and has rebuffed every invitation extended to her by the Police. Her current whereabouts are unknown,” the statement said.

The police added that all lawful means would be employed to apprehend and produce her in court to answer the charges already filed.

The command also stressed that freedom of expression does not shield individuals from criminal liability, noting that constitutionally guaranteed free speech has lawful limits.

It was earlier reported that Onajobi was invited following a petition over a series of videos she posted on social media criticising Governor Abiodun’s administration.

In the videos, the Ogun-born activist accused the governor of abandoning victims of a road accident involving Nigerian-born British boxer Anthony Joshua, who reportedly lost two friends and trainers in a crash along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in December 2025. She further alleged that the state lacked functional ambulances, while accusing the government of prioritising social events and the purchase of SUVs for local government chairmen over emergency medical services.

The police said investigations were ongoing, adding that other individuals allegedly involved in the dissemination of false information were being tracked.
