A fire outbreak in the early hours of Tuesday gutted a one-storey commercial building housing computer and accessories dealers on Somoye Osundairo Street, Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos, destroying goods estimated to be worth millions of naira.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the incident was reported at about 1:55 a.m. via the 767/112 toll-free emergency lines, prompting the immediate activation of the state’s emergency response plan from its Command and Control Centre in Alausa.
According to the agency, its response team arrived at the scene at about 2:15 a.m. and found the building engulfed in flames, with thick smoke indicating intense combustion within the structure.
In a preliminary incident report signed by LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency disclosed that the affected building was primarily used for the storage and sale of computers and accessories, noting that the large quantity of combustible materials contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.
“Responders observed active flames and dense smoke, indicating intense combustion within the structure. The high volume of combustible materials contributed to the rapid spread of the fire,” the report stated.
LASEMA confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident. However, one Lagos State firefighter sustained minor injuries during the firefighting operation and was treated on site by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).

The agency said the entire upper floor of the building was completely razed, with all goods and property stored there destroyed, while the structure was partially compromised and would require urgent assessment.
“All goods and properties worth millions of naira stored therein were totally destroyed by the conflagration,” the agency said.
It added that the response team carried out a risk assessment, cordoned off the affected area and coordinated a multi-agency response involving the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS and the Nigeria Police Force to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
Firefighting operations successfully contained the blaze within the affected structure, while damping-down activities were ongoing to prevent re-ignition. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
LASEMA recommended a detailed probe into the incident, a structural integrity assessment of the building and a comprehensive review of fire safety measures and storage practices across Computer Village.
