Personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) prevented a potential disaster on Sunday morning when they responded promptly to a lone fuel tanker crash at NEPA Roundabout along Ahmadu Bello Way in Kaduna.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, when a loaded tanker toppled at the busy roundabout, sparking fears of a fire outbreak and possible secondary accidents in the area.

The Kaduna Sector Command received a distress call at about 7:15 a.m. reporting the fallen tanker.

“At about 0715HRS, the Sector Command received a distress call reporting a fallen fuel tanker at the location,” said Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer Olusegun Ogungbemide in a statement.

According to the statement, a rescue team from RS1.1 Kaduna was immediately deployed to the scene.

Upon arrival, FRSC personnel quickly secured the scene, closing all roads leading to the crashed tanker to prevent secondary accidents and a potential fire, the statement said.

Traffic was redirected to alternative routes to maintain smooth movement and reduce congestion across the metropolis.

The FRSC said traffic was quickly diverted to ensure smooth flow of vehicles and reduce congestion across the metropolis.

Personnel from the Federal Fire Service and the Nigerian Police Force were also deployed to the scene, working alongside the FRSC to ensure public safety.

Efforts are ongoing to evacuate the tanker’s fuel and remove the vehicle from the road to restore normal traffic flow.

“No casualty was recorded at the time of this report,” the Corps added.

The FRSC commended motorists for their cooperation during the operation and urged them to remain calm and patient.

“FRSC appreciates the support of road users and encourages motorists to continue following traffic directives while recovery efforts are ongoing,” the statement said.

The Corps also reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, emphasizing its dedication to proactive response, effective traffic management, and the protection of road users across Nigeria.

In a related incident, a potential disaster was averted in Kogi State in October 2025 following a fuel tanker accident.

The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Tenimu Etuku, said the accident occurred at Crusher along the Felele Expressway when a fuel-laden truck en route to Abuja became detached from its tanker, which subsequently rolled into a ditch.
