The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three individuals for alleged involvement in cult activities and one person in connection with an attack on a commercial motorcyclist.
The police said the motorcyclist attack suspect was apprehended with assistance from Agbekoya Vigilante personnel. While the three cultism suspects were arrested in Oyo town, the motorcyclist attack suspect was apprehended in Ibadan.
According to a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, the suspects remain under interrogation and will be charged to court once investigations are complete. Some exhibits have already been recovered from the suspects.
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Atiba Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), swiftly mobilised to Bode Thomas Secondary School, Oyo, where a large group dressed in black was observed gathering for a suspected cult meeting. Upon seeing the police, approximately thirty individuals fled into nearby bushes,” the statement read.
During the operation, the following suspects were arrested: Jelili Taiwo Kazeem, 20; Toheeb Adediran, 25; and Ayomide Taiwo, 23. Further investigation revealed that Toheeb Adediran, one of the suspects, is a commercial motorcyclist who transported some suspected cult members to the location. His motorcycle was also seized for investigative purposes.
The statement added that the suspects are cooperating with police and providing information to help apprehend other fleeing gang members. “Upon conclusion of investigations, the suspects will be charged to court,” it said.
In a separate incident, the police arrested 38-year-old Saheed Eegunjobi in connection with a violent attack on a commercial motorcyclist in Ibadan. The arrest was facilitated through collaboration with Agbekoya Vigilante personnel, who handed over the suspect to the patrol team of the Idi-Aro Division. Eegunjobi and an accomplice, currently at large, allegedly posed as passengers before attacking the rider in the Mokola area of Ibadan.
