The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on Wednesday released separate goodwill messages to Christians and Muslims as the seasons of Lent and Ramadan commence, calling for prayers for peace and prosperity in Nigeria.
In her Lenten message, the First Lady encouraged Christians to embrace spiritual growth and reflection.
“As we begin this Lenten period, I pray this time of spiritual growth, self-reflection, and drawing closer to God is committed to following Christ’s example of love,” she said in a statement shared on X by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi.
She added, “May our prayers and acts of compassion and kindness deepen our faith and reflect on our relationships with others.”
Tinubu urged Nigerians to remember the nation in their prayers, saying, “I urge us to remember to pray for the peace and prosperity of our dear nation Nigeria.”
She concluded by wishing Christians “a blessed and fulfilled Lenten season.”
In a separate Ramadan message issued the same day, the First Lady felicitated with Muslim faithful on the commencement of the fasting month.
“I felicitate with the Muslim faithful as you commence this blessed month of Ramadan,” she said.
She prayed that the holy month would bring peace and spiritual fulfilment to families and the nation, adding, “During this holy month of fasting and prayers, I urge us all to remember our beloved nation in prayers for greater peace and prosperity.”
The message ended with a supplication: “May Almighty Allah accept all our supplications, forgive all our sins and answer all our prayers. Ramadan Kareem.”
Ramadan begins on Wednesday following the sighting of the crescent moon in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. The Sultanate Council confirmed that the fasting month would commence nationwide after reports of moon sighting were received.
The Islamic holy month will last 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the next crescent marking the month of Shawwal.
Meanwhile, the Christian season of Lent also begins on Wednesday and is scheduled to conclude on April 2, 2026.
