The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two suspects over alleged transnational drug smuggling and recovered 197 sachets of Tramadol during a border operation.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.

According to the statement, the Command, in its ongoing fight against drug trafficking and trans-border crimes, recorded a breakthrough with the arrest of two suspects found in possession of 197 sachets of Tramadol.

The suspects were identified as Muhammad Mustapha, 32, of Dorayi in Kano State, and Muhammad Sanusi, 48, of Garoua in the Republic of Cameroon. They were intercepted by operatives of the Border Patrol Fufore Unit during an operation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the illicit substances were transported from a South-Eastern state and conveyed through Adamawa State with the intention of smuggling them into Cameroon before they were intercepted.

The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, commended personnel of the Border Patrol Unit for their vigilance and professionalism. He directed the Command’s Monitoring Unit to take over the case for diligent investigation and further necessary action.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ridding the state of drug-related and illicit crimes.

In a related development, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency reported in December 2025 that it seized 1,396.5kg of narcotics and arrested 150 suspects in Adamawa State.

The NDLEA Commander in the state, Aliyu Abubakar, disclosed that coordinated intelligence-driven operations across the state, including at the airport, led to the seizure of 353kg of cannabis sativa, 983kg of Tramadol and 60.500kg of other opioids.

He added that the command secured six convictions, has 53 pending cases in court, seized two vehicles linked to alleged drug offences, and counselled and rehabilitated 39 persons arrested for drug abuse.
