Three men have been arrested in Nafada Local Government Area, Gombe State, over allegations of ritual activity involving human remains.
According to counter-insurgency and security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred on February 24, 2026, when Zakari Ibrahim, 45, of Barwo Sabon Gari Village, reported seeing Umar Ibrahim, 30, of Madaki Quarters, Barwo Winde District, digging a grave at the Barwo Sabon Gari Cemetery.
During police interrogation, Umar allegedly admitted that his father, Ibrahim Usman, 60, had instructed him to retrieve body parts from a deceased person for ritual purposes. He also confessed that in 2025, he had exhumed a human toe from the same cemetery and handed it over to Alhaji Bappa Abdu, 35, from the same area.
