The Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has raised alarm over the rising insecurity in the state, urging authorities to take immediate action to address the threat.
At its monthly congress held at the Alagbaka secretariat in Akure, the union highlighted the growing wave of criminal activities, especially kidnappings, describing the situation as deeply troubling and in need of urgent intervention.
In a communique issued after the meeting and signed by Damilola Isaiah, Adebiyi Jimisayo, and Joy Pius, NUJ called on relevant security agencies to take decisive measures to protect residents, who have been living under constant fear.
The union specifically noted the surge in kidnappings in Akure North Local Government Area and along the Uso-Owo corridor, insisting that perpetrators must be apprehended and prosecuted.
“The congress expressed concern over the alarming security situation in parts of the state, particularly the rising cases of commercialised kidnappings,” the statement partly read.
