The Akire of Ikire in Osun State, Oba Olatunde Falabi, has passed away at the age of 91, sources close to the palace confirmed. The monarch reportedly died over the weekend following a brief illness.

The Chairperson of Irewole Local Government, Dr. Esther Okunola, announced his death in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Monday. She described Oba Falabi’s passing as the “fall of a great elephant,” expressing deep sorrow over the loss.

Okunola said Ikire and the entire Irewole Local Government had lost a royal father whose wisdom, courage, and guidance were pillars of unity and progress. She highlighted that Oba Falabi’s reign was characterized by peace, cultural preservation, and dedication to the development of Ikire.

“His leadership strengthened traditional institutions and fostered harmony among his people. Indeed, when a mighty elephant falls, the forest trembles. Kabiyesi lived a life of honour and service, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations,” she added.
