The Iho community in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State has been plunged into mourning after a truck crashed into a building on Monday, killing a mother of three, Mrs. Chioma Ogu.

Her husband, Mr. Ogu, remains critically ill and is receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital following the collision.

Mrs. Ogu was at home when the truck, which was transporting chippings, lost control and struck their bungalow in Iho, Ikeduru.

Sources reported that she had been preparing for her mother’s funeral, scheduled for this weekend, before her tragic death.

The source, Mr Emma Emeka, said the driver was alleged to have dozed off while driving, during which the truck veered off the road and rammed into the building, killing Chioma and leaving her husband critically injured.

The incident was said to have occurred during late hours when many families had retired for the night.

“We were already in our houses for the night when we heard a loud noise and then screams from Mr Ogu. When we rushed out, we saw Mrs Chioma Ogu lying lifeless; she was crushed by the truck that rammed into their house.

As of now, Mr. Ogu is fighting for his life in the hospital. Until her death, Mrs. Chioma had been preparing for her mother’s burial, scheduled for this weekend. This is truly a tragic situation,” Emeka said.

Attempts to reach the Imo State police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to messages sent to him.
