NIPCO Gas Limited has announced plans to construct 20 additional Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations across Nigeria as part of efforts to deepen gas utilisation and support the Federal Government’s clean energy and post-subsidy reform agenda.

The Managing Director of the company, Nagendra Verma, disclosed this during a media engagement in Lagos, outlining the firm’s expansion drive within Nigeria’s evolving energy landscape.

According to Verma, the new stations are being developed in a joint venture with NNPC Gas Marketing Limited, alongside the establishment of strategic compression hubs to enhance nationwide distribution.

“In addition, CNG mother stations located at Lekki and Ore are at advanced stages of completion. These facilities will serve as primary compression and dispatch hubs, enabling efficient supply of CNG to daughter stations and industrial customers,” Verma said.

He explained that the rollout is designed to ensure broader coverage along key transport corridors and high-traffic urban centres, improving accessibility and affordability of CNG for commercial vehicles, fleet operators, mass transit systems and private motorists.

The company will deploy a mother-daughter network model to extend supply to areas not directly connected to gas pipeline infrastructure. Verma noted that all facilities are being developed in compliance with regulatory and safety standards.

He added that the expansion is expected to create employment opportunities, reduce transportation fuel costs, stimulate businesses within the mobility value chain, cut carbon emissions and improve air quality.

Beyond the CNG expansion, Verma revealed that NIPCO Gas, under a mandate from Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, is constructing an 18-inch, 80-kilometre natural gas pipeline from Sagamu to Ibadan. The project, scheduled for completion by June or July 2026, is expected to boost gas supply to industries and commercial consumers in Ogun and Oyo states.

He said the pipeline would enhance manufacturing competitiveness, lower production costs for industries reliant on alternative fuels, and stimulate regional economic growth.

The firm is also developing additional gas distribution infrastructure from Sagamu to Abeokuta in Ogun State as part of its broader strategy to deepen gas penetration across the South-West region.
