U.S. EMBASSY POSTPONES VISA SERVICES IN ABUJA AMID PROTESTS

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has announced the temporary closure of its Abuja office for routine operations following concerns about possible protests in the Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

In a notice posted on its official X account on Thursday, the embassy said the move was taken as a precaution due to the likelihood of demonstrations in the city. Routine services will remain suspended until Monday, March 9, 2026.

The embassy also disclosed that visa appointments initially scheduled for March 4 and March 5, along with American Citizen Services (ACS) appointments planned for March 5, have been moved to new dates next week.

Affected visa applicants were advised to check their email inboxes or log into their AVITS accounts to see their updated appointment schedules. Applicants seeking American Citizen Services were also urged to review their email messages for details of their rescheduled appointments.

The embassy added that anyone who does not receive a new appointment date should contact the consular section through the Visa Navigator platform for assistance.

It further encouraged the public to keep monitoring its official website and social media platforms for further updates.
